Golf Course Builders Association of America Visits Pace of Play

A highlight of the Summer Meeting of the GCBAA was a crash course by Bill Yates in how builders can impact the future pace of play on a new or renovated golf course. Yates partnered with golf course architect Forrest Richardson to present "Pace of Play Perspective: Design and Construction" to an audience of the world's foremost golf course builders and leading suppliers to the golf course construction industry, at the July 23-25, 2013 conference in Monterey, CA.

The message? That builders and architects have a unique role in how pace of play rolls out on a new course, by building the stage for what happens from day one on a course. They have a singular opportunity, if they take it, said Yates, to influence the flow of play and how easy or difficult it will be to manage on a day to day basis.

Richardson, who is part of a recently formed ASGCA pace of play panel, reminded the audience that  architects and construction companies can add value for their customers by expanding their thinking to include pace of play. In fact, Bill Yates' work with golf course architects through his specialized Pace Designer Systems® program includes an "Owners Manual" for architects to provide to the owners and managers of the new or redesigned course, with all the how-to's of managing the course for a smooth pace of play from opening day.
