Pace Manager Systems' Bill Yates Shares Insights at 2014 USGA Annual Meeting

Pace Manager Systems Founder and Pace of Play Consultant to the United States Golf Association, Bill Yates, was the featured presenter at the USGA's Annual Meeting on Saturday February 8, 2014, speaking on “Improving the Pace of Play: It Can be Done!” The event was held at the beautiful Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, host for the 2014 U.S. Men’s and Women’s Open Championships in June.

To an audience of USGA executive staff, members, member courses, regional golf associations, press representatives and others, Yates uncovered his secrets to improving pace of play for recreational and championship golf.

Pulling from his decades of experience eliminating slow play from more than 150 courses around the world, Yates outlined essential steps for change in how golf is played and managed to create smooth flow and shorter rounds for players, improved reputation and bottom line for courses, and also more successful championships. Debunking some popular myths that have stood in the way of solutions to slow play, he explained, “These myths have caused us to focus on the wrong things and ignore what is really causing slow play.”

Yates saluted the USGA for taking on the battle of slow play. He has been working with the USGA since early 2013 on their pace of play improvement initiative, a commitment by the organization to improve both championship and recreational play for players at all levels. The USGA maintains an online resource library with articles by Yates and others for both players and course managers to help in this effort.
